WHAT

Mosquito Bites

Mosquito bites are the tiny red itchy bumps that appear on our skin after mosquitoes puncture the area. The bump generally fades away on its own within a few hours a after a few days. Occasionally the swelling may become sore and and dark red. This is known as skeeter syndrome and it can be sometimes seen in children.

Bites from mosquitoes carrying certain viruses or parasites can cause severe illness. Infected mosquitoes can pass illnesses and infections that include yellow fever, malaria, dengue and encephalitis.

The mosquito menace

We all want to take our children outdoors, a big and a much needed break from the screen and the monotonous indoors, but with the outdoors comes the mosquitoes. Mosquito bites are a massive problem, not only do they bring diseases but the bites are itchy which is very irritating. The mosquito repellent creams and devices may repel the mosquitoes but can be very harmful for our children’s soft and sensitive skin. The chemical laden creams and liquids have no scientific evidence that they are safe for our health. The best repellents are natural plant oils; they don’t affect your health and are safe to use.

PREVENT

Prevent mosquito bites

You can't entirely prevent mosquito bites, but you can always lower your chances of getting bitten by them. A few ways are:

Check water logging in the areas around your house. Mosquitoes breed in stagnant water. Don't let water sit out in the open for too long.
Make sure your locality is clean.
Clean the nooks and corners of your home to make sure there is no breeding of mosquitoes.
Keep the grasses in your neighbourhood trimmed.
Install net screens along with your doors and windows.
Always use natural and non toxic mosquito repellant on yourself and on your kids.
To help prevent mosquito-borne illness, make sure your vaccinations are up to date.

One

Fill the empty 15 ml bottle with Lemongrass water. To it, add 4-5 drops of Eucalyptus oil.

Why

The Lemongrass water has insect repelling properties. It is food grade and can be applied directly on the skin. The Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) have approved Eucalyptus oil as an effective mosquito repellent ingredient. The combination of Lemongrass water and Eucalyptus oil is a very strong mosquito repellant.

Two

Spray the mix in your child's bare hands and legs.

Why

The Lemongrass water is very soothing and is completely safe to apply as it is. The Eucalyptus oil is of therapeutic grade and always suggested to be diluted before use. The combination will keep mosquitoes and bugs away for at least 2-3 hours. It is recommended to reapply after every 3 hours.

For best results, follow this regimen everyday.
